There's just something about Opera I do not like. I can't really explain it. I guess it's just another browser, and I'm perfectly comfortable with Firefox.

And, I don't know why the developer community loves it so much because I've seen it botch--at least apparently botch--perfectly valid CSS/XHTML.

The same reason why not many people using Firefox.
Dominating of Microsoft on PC market even thought they dropped support IE for the MAC platform.
But since the Apple moved toward Intel based CPU I assume Microsoft might reconsider it.
I only using it for testing webpages.
It appears Opera has pretty much the same problems as Safari so if it looks ok in Opera it will probably looks the same in Safari.
Personally I don't see any differences using one browser or another. If it would me I would just have one browser for everybody and don't have all this stupid coding problem for specific platform.

    Best,DS

Amen, DS. We don't need any more desktop browsers. Opera should stick to the handheld/mobile browser. They're leading the way, so there's no need to clutter our space even more.

Those stats are misleading. Those are stats for visitors of w3schools. Most people that go there are beginners. They mostly use IE. Furthermore, Firefox is a better browser for web development due to its extensions. Opera has about 2% worldwide.

Opera 9 is great - I use it, alongside Firefox and IE6 (only for testing) and it has the best features that I have seen. That said, Firefox is catching up fast.

I like Opera for some things and it seems to get better with each new release, but it lacks the plugins and extensions that Firefox has so I still use the fox as my browser of choice. BTW Opera is now owned by Micro$oft.

opera is a lot better than firefox. i dont why people says opera messes up good html/css. In my opinion, Opera displays things more correctly than firefox. Eg, opera is the only software which actually floats images directly the right when you tell an image to float right. In firefox and ie, they float right and also go down a bit. Also, styled submit buttons appear correctly in opera as they take care of the padding so they are in line with other elements.

All of this isn't a suprise either, since Opera's main developer also helped develop CSS ( I might have to double-check that).

Also, most of the firefox extensions are shitty anyway, apart from the web developer one.

Lastly, Opera has many more features than firefox like session saving, tab previews, main client, widgets, irc support. Its general presentation is much better aswell.

Try css width=33.33% in opera, Opera will round it to 33%, even IE supports 33.33%

Also check out browsers.js file under your opera installation directory. (list of site specific hacks)

Firefox > web developer, firebug, session saver, dom inspector, selection source, lots of bookmarklets, ...
    Opera > nothing.

So what? Who the hell would use percentages like that anyway?

Firefox is a mere improvement on IE.

Changing from Firefox to Opera is like going from a PC to a Mac. They do the same job, but Opera does it much better and it is presented much better. Eg. viewing your history, notes, irc chat etc. It's easier to use.

Opera also has bittorent support, voice support, mouse gestures (which are extremely helpful) and widgets.

Firefox is bloatware, its 19mb. Whereas, Opera is only 12mb, and has a bag load more features.

premii, Opera also has a Web Developer Toolbar. Opera had session saver for many generations. It has DOM Inspector. It has many other things that Firefox requires extensions for out of the box.

Opera 9 passes the ACID2 test, Firefox is planning to pass that only in verison three.
Opera is also pretty much the fastest browser. I find Firefox to be a resource hog and unstable, also if you want it to do anything useful (like basic mouse gestures for the love of bob) you have to install more extensions, consequently bloating it and increasing the memory footprint while reducing the performance, go Firefox!

Although I think it's good to encourage browsers to adhere to the standards tested:
Everything that Acid2 tests is specified in a Web standard, but not all Web standards are tested. Acid2 does not guarantee conformance with any specification.
    Emphasis mine. Source: http://webstandards.org/action/acid2/guide/

So, as a web designer, coding in XHTML 1.0 strict or 1.1 (ACID 2 tests HTML 4) and using Javascript on the occasion, ACID2 does not show me what browser will render my web site correctly.

    OK, that's fair.
I still claim that Opera is a better browser all around though and that it displays pages more properly, is faster and more useful.

Also there are so many feature like shortcut keys, mousebutton effects

eg: using left button and right button combination you can go back and front.. etc..

I think Opera is very User Friendly

Well, I won't argue against the many features that come out of the box, but I just can't use it as my primary browser with it's CSS and DOM quirks.

Which quirks would that be? I'm not arguing now, I'm just geniunely interested, maybe if you have a list of them somewhere or something like that, I'd be very thankful. :)
