I really like the soft, professional feel. Nice contrast and just a good layout in general.
I would suggest you focus on making the navigation stand out a little more. It just kind of hides itself a little. You could do some nice hanging tabs. Also, I don't like the hover bolding. It makes the whole navigation jitter.
Agree with the navigation "jitter". The look is a little too dark for my taste (completely subjective input). Looking under the hood, I suggest removing the "style1" repeated and perhaps have your style be on any "p" inside a "blockquote".
No suggestion, just something to think about -- where is my eye supposed to go when I first hit the page? Right now I hit the top left corner, scan down to the far right content area for only a brief second and then focus my attention back to the left on the "latest work" image. Once I am there, my eye is a little conflicted.
It is like I see the portfolio piece, but can't figure out where to start reading -- with all the text, I feel compelled to read something there.
Great start though man, can't wait to see the final product.
This is a really a nice site. I love how you kept it simple. No overly fancy effects. You've got busienss and communication on your mind so you get the viewer in right away and answer their up-front questions. Something not many portfolio sites think is necessary (that is, real business portfolio sites that are tools to get more work, experimental sites are a different animal).
Here are a few suggestions:
1.) Regarding the left margin, I like it. Keep it. But the page needs a background. Either a color, subtle fade, or pattern. Otherwise that left margin looks weird.
2.) The colors are yawn-city. You've got contrast and a nice smooth page. But It needs more contrast to pull the eyes of viewers in and anchor the page - you know, show them what to look at first and where to go from there. Perhaps you're wanting to keep it monochromatic. That's cool, but think about a different tone of blue or different color all together. There are some phenominal minilistic sites that don't have much color, but they make smart use of white space and masterfully employ contrast to keep it interesting. The dull blue you're using has a very generic, safe, accounting office feel to it. It's like the web equivalent to Reflex Blue in the print world.
3.) I also think it's weird that the right coloumn ends at the bottom. It should run to the end of the page or you should let the left coloumn fill in underneath it.
That's it. Some of what I said is pretty subjective, so take it with a grain of salt. Hope this helps.
