I fairly recently completed a redesign of my employer's website. It was the first public website I've ever done (I know I'm getting into the game fairly late), and I'm now working on a revision on my own time. I have a list of changes I want to make, and would love more opinions. Please visit the site and let me know what you think.

    The URL is http://www.varland.com.

Well, right off the bat (2 seconds in) I see a picture with pretty bad quality at the bottom... then right about it there is a button labeled quality.

Could you be a bit more specific about which picture you don't like? I know that our pictures may not win any awards, but we're not a design company. If you can provide some constructive criticism, I'm all ears. Please don't just talk about something as "bad quality".

the picture of the trucks and the warehouse is blurry and doesn't portray the quality company image you're going after.

Okay... I can see that that picture could be replaced. I didn't choose it, but I'll certainly add it to the list of changes to make.

You might want to change the font on the firm name - or at the least anti-alias it a bit more so it looks smooth (both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro can do that rather easily).

Add a style to your text links and get rid of "click here."

I'm not sure I would put the "request quote" way up at the top. The images take up the entire page, but I would say to put that somewhere in the middle, so that it's right smack in the middle of the page, easier to find. Also, make the links stand out a little more

Has anyone clicked on "Click here to request a quote"?

I really really really dislike "mailto's" that I don't see coming. Especially when something like that gives me the expectation of a FORM.

I would add a colored rectangle behind the text on your navigations buttons, have it extend across the bottom of each image. Remobe the drop chadow or glow from the text. I would also consider that instead of another image below navigation create a kind ad using text about tha company.
