    Hello guys,

I am new here, so please be patient :-).. Honestly new to Webdesign as well.

Story is: I was hired at publishing house for, well now pretty much everything for their web presentation, but initially for webdevelopment, since I will integrate a CMS system. Well, now I find myself also redesigning the old static website. And I could use some help.

Accidently I came across tableless Design with CSS. and its really a great thing, so I pretty much doing tutorials right now. But as time passes, i have to get to the creative part, which is a little tricky, since the main color of their magazine is yellow. And I can't really figure out how to integrate it in the website.

Its gonna be a news-magazine Style page, but obviously I need some other colors to contribute, since yellow is not very subtile.

Since it is a website about Golf & Lifestyle - sounds contradictory to yellow, I know - it should be elegant, modern and simple, yet legible.

To keep it shorter: Does anyone have an idea which color goes with this yellow. Any examples out there? Any other ideas of how I should begin designing?

Another thing is: Can I use Lucida Sans for the body text, or is it problematic? My other choice would be Tahoma, or is anything closer to Lucida?

Is it wise to combine a serif Headline with sans-serif body text? Which serif is recommended?

Here is the old page, including th logo I have to integrate:

Really, any Input would be appreciated, especially on this color issue.

    Thanks guys!

You're on the right track with serif headers and sans-serif text. I think Tahoma is a great font to use. You can set Lucida as a secondary font, or vice-versa

    #element {font-family: Tahoma,'Lucida Sans',sans-serif}

Yellow isn't such a bad color for golf. Often times the flags for golf holes are yellow. You just need to match it with the right shades of green and possibly blue (think of the yellow flag waving against green fairways and blue skies). I think the green yellow combo on the current site is almost there, but the green needs to pop out more, perhaps with a solid border or drop shadow.

    Keep us up to date.

    thanks for the answer.

yellow is not bad, thats true. with blue, black or green, brown. They are combinations.

But its not only the yellow background in the logo, its more the logo itself, pretty oldfashioned.

Speaking of the fonts..Can you name a good serif font for the headlines, as standard conform font of course.

Thanks.. and I'll be back, I guess pretty often..

One more thing: Does anyone know any well-designed magazine webpages? But it must be magazine style, that means with a load of articles, headlines etc.

    thanks!

You'll definitely want to check out this link:

It has thumbnails of some predominately yellow websites, as well as links to some web-based color matching and palette apps
