    I currently use PHP Collab for project management, as it is free, open-source, simple and pleasant to look at. In addition, I have been using excel to keep track of time logs, and have been adding task comments within.

    I would like to know if this is a pretty average way of doing things, or if anyone has their own (semi-proprietary) ways of handling project/time management that they would be willing to share.

    I remember seeing a bunch of programs about 6 months back that handle this stuff together, but I can't remember em now. Thanks for any help.

    I also use Sidejobtrack. There is a pro version coming soon with more features.

    Alex king has released a few (source-code) task management solutions, however, they are, for the majority paid solutions - and right now I can't afford much more than my internet connection.
