    Hey there, how's it going?

I'm working on a new blog at http://www.straightsets.co.uk . Most will recognise that I've simply jazzed up K2 a bit. I'm not quite finished with making alterations to the core theme but I'm happy with what I've done so far (your general impressions would be appreciated). The trouble I have at the moment is the logo. As you can see, the header is blank. I've been playing around in PhotoShop but nothing seems to be working (I'm not so good with the graphic design). I was wondering what you thought might look good up there in the header. I'm thinking something typically Web2.0, but what do you think?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for individuals who might be able to help me out, either for free or for a small sum. I'm a poor student (well, I'm doing OK) and I'm hopeless with logos.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It'll be focused on women's professional Tennis. The aim of Straight Sets is to provide fast, easy and accessible news and gossip, both on and off the courts, while, at the same time providing an entertaining read. We’ll be covering all the major tournaments in detail, including the build-up and the major results, plus news from the smaller events. We’ll also be bringing you special reports from the tournaments themselves with interviews and personal accounts of matches.

I think the logo is the least of your worries then. Red, slate blue, and unsaturated green don't speak "women's tennis" to me, nor do gradients.

Don't really see where you're coming from. Content is king in my eyes. The aim of the design was to create a comfortable environment for reading, which I think I've achieved. I want it to be a departure from the normal style and focus of Tennis websites. I think the type of content that will be created matches the design perfectly.

    So, the logo then...

your current logo will work fine if you just add a few thematic changes

i'm thinking balls and baselines would work nicely - you could also shop around for a nifty font to base the logo on.
a lot of designers just do that and add in a few tweaks. it's a hack method, but it works for the small budget projects.
