    Hi, could you give honest verdicts on my first css/xhtml site.

    http://www.frenchdays.co.uk

    I'm having problems with ieMac and floats any help much appreciated.
    I'm also in the process of tidying the code, and the wordpress (guestbook) section.

    Thanks in advance

    That's simply a fantastic job, i won't say a negative word on that work.
    Everything's just great, mixing simplicity and serious.
    i like this crystal look everywhere from the ico to the nav.

    Ok maybe the header pic is a little too big, but it's just so insignificant compared to hte number of high points on this site. Nice work on the photography too.

    I think you did great job, however there is a flaw in my opinion...

    You have 2 places to visit (main links - navigation), and they are both at the bottom of the page and fall below the fold on both 800x600 and 1024x768.

    If you want to drive the visitors to the sites, you should make it easier for them to get there.

    The 2 sites look great, love the designs.

    The site looks great. It's loading very slowly for me. Perhaps compressing the background images would help load times.

    I noticed that you're using span class="hide" to hide the text in your nav menu. It's unnecessary to associate the span with a class if you nest your CSS properly. For example:

    ul#navigation-clair li a span {
    display: none;
    }

    I agree with what adjustafresh said, the page loads very slowly. You should compress your background images, they are very large right now.

    For example this image is currently 255kb, however when compressed it is only 79kb and there is very little noticeable quality difference.

    Thanks for your kind comments and advice, good point about the fold droppyale, and top nav tip adjustafresh. You are all right about the compression, dropped it to 60 and still looks ok.

    Great idea this skillshare thingy.
