    I am a webdesigner . I would like to start learning javascript. i have the basic knowledge about javascript. where should i start? is there any good book to study ? I want javascript for UI design. I have thorough knowledge in xhtml and css.what are the main javascripts needed for UI design..

    I think you would have to be a bit more specific, but dom and httprequest would be good search queries. I am not proficient in javascript, but I do know a lot has changed since I tried learning it.

    Definitely start off with Jeremy Keith's DOM Scripting, it's a great intro to using JavaScript to manipulate the DOM. Then check out Stuart Langridge's DHTML Utopia: Modern Web Design Using JavaScript & DOM.

    David Flanagan's JavaScript: The Definitive Guide and James Edwards & Cameron Adams' The JavaScript Anthology: 101 Essential Tips, Tricks & Hacks are 2 great references to have for quick solutions.

    You may want to check out Peter-Paul Koch's ppk on JavaScript as well. I haven't read it, but his quirksmode.org website is filled with very useful javascript info. Check out the Table of Contents and see if you think the topics will help you out.
