How about an IRC #SkillShare channel where we can talk live?

I don't think that's a good idea, I've seen many forums do this and the channel is eventually forgotten and removed.

An IRC channel would also need to be moderated and would probably bring more headaches.

Besides, I think having discussions archived, work better for the community in general.

I agree with both of you.

Archived discussions for new people works well - they know all the required and extra information as well as a path of discussion that we like to talk about. However, an addition IRC channel for real time discussion can be a social place where we can talk about whatever (and I am aware we have the 'Anything Goes' area here).

If it's ok with the members, I can register a channel at irc.xelium.com and moderate it and such...

    Or someone else can?

It would be nice if we had irc.cssbeauty.com. Public servers get spammed to death. And since I'm using Opera's almost useless IRC client, I would rather not connect to a huge IRC server.

Opera's IRC Client (Built in), it nice. I liked it.

Anyways, Droppy doesn't seem to think an IRC channel is needed so I doubt we will get irc.cssbeauty.com.

And just FYI, I've registered three busy channels at irc.xelium.com and they haven't got spammed. You get BotServ, NickServ, ChanServ, full Owner permissions, etc.

I'm not totally shutting down the idea... How about we give it some time? SkillShare isn't even a month old.

It takes time to know the members and trust people to moderate something associated with cssbeauty.

If enough people are interested I am totally up for it, but I would rather give it some time.

May i comment something abt it,

If IRC started lot of fourms should not come. I mean the peoples will talk each other but. discussions can't view all other users. and they can't comment if they are not online. Also here some peoples are not fluent in english like me.

so if discussions in readable format we can take time to understand and type..

But i am not telling that u don't start IRC channel . i just feel my problems..

    Thanks
    Arun

You use a code pasting service and share on in real time.

I think an IRC channel would be a good idea. Not because I think it would be faster or better for answering questions, but because it would be an interesting place to hang out and chat.

I've frequented some other forums where the forum itself was very rigidly moderated and only used for help / information. On the other hand, their IRC channel was very informal and a great place to make friendships within the community.

We could post our "Rate our sites" kinda topics there.

haha. i don't understand the new site rule about not being allowed to post sites for review.... ok sometimes it can lead to spamming of sorts but most of the time it's got to be a useful process?

I think we should be able to post our sites for review by the members of ths board because it good to look at other people's designs and offer suggestions etc and help them improve by doing so

It can be helpful (sometimes), however we don't want "site reviews" to be the focus of the forums.

Lately it seemed everybody wanted their site reviewed, which I can understand, but it goes against mission of SkillShare.

This is not a final decision, we can revisit this in the future and possibly reopen a category for it.

How did IRC turned into "site reviews"?

    lol... good question.

Personally, I think an IRC channel would be a good thing. For one thing, I love IRC. For another, it would be a really nice way to make friends. It's different typing to someone in real time than on a forum. I think the forum is good for posting things, and the IRC good for discussion and talking.
