I'm using lighbox in a site and want to use a similar functionality to have custom content in a lighbox window. I could pick it apart and customize it but am wondering if something is already written to be able to do that and have it work alongside lightbox as it is.

Look for ThickBox. It's based on LightBox, but works for content other than images.
