I'm enrolled in an IT program in an online college and one of my reqs was an Intro to Webdesign. I figured, ok, easy A. But I'm REALLY having a hard time with it! Not only are they teaching us to design/layout with tables, but they're also teaching us how to use table tags that don't even close!!!!! Here's some example code:
We have to post on the message board and I just can BARELY contain myself. I try and explain, but I get things from the Instructor like "yes, you CAN do it that way [css], but there are other ways to do it too." .... I feel like saying "yeah, and I COULD tell my cardiologist I want open heart surgery with a Spork, but there are other ways to do it too...."
Thanks for letting me vent. Oh, I'm new to the forum btw! :) Howdy all!
"yeah, and I COULD tell my cardiologist I want open heart surgery with a Spork, but there are other ways to do it too...."
that was great. welcome to the forum, cowgirl.
Sounds like a job for the Web Standards Education Task Force. Contact them and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you teach your teacher how the internet should work :P
I think sadly this STILL is common practice for teachers, the education system will take years to catch up. A few months back I was helping a someone with a college project "my first website type thing", and I couldn't believe what they were teaching the students.
Good to know that you know right from wrong though!
When I took my Intro to Web Design course we were taught the ways of tables and frames, along with designing in Dreamweaver and not learning to code. Good thing I knew HTML before I ever went to college and didn't pay much attention in that class. Sad to see not much has changed in seven years.
