Now that we have web 2.0, I started remembering the first couple of web sites that i ever made. Plain text and simple. What i wanted to do with my next design was create something that draws off of those elements.
1) are pure text websites applicable to modern web design and can they still be attractive? 2) if so, does my web site seem appealing in any aspects? or is it just plain dull?
I think this is a great question that you posed! In an age where we're so used to gradient fades and AJAX, would a text-only site work?
Yes, I believe yours does. I thought the font/color choices were appropriate, and it was easy to view. The only thing I had a little (and I mean tiny) issue with was perhaps the navigation could've been better defined. But other than that, very good work.
sandbox... I think you're on to something. One of my favorite sites on the web is daringfireball.net, which is a text site. I think that your site will have to have better content in order to pull off the minimalist design, but that will only help your site.
I believe that a primarily text-based website is the quintessence of Web 2.0. Web 2.0 sites offer great content or features that are accessible to all (users and machines). Look at Craigslist, del.icio.us and Flickr. Sandbox, I really like what you've done, but it's nothing revolutionary. I would like to make one usability suggestion: change the color of the link rather than just having the underline. This would also add a splash of color to the site.
Check out Subtraction; I think you'll appreciate it.
