What's the best stats program (free or not)? Are there any really good free ones out there?
I've used Google Analytics which is pretty good and very detailed but it can get very bogged down and complicated in my opinion. I've also tried shortstat, which was good but it looks like they've discontinued that for the paid version Mint (which looks absolutley fantastic for $30 per domain). -
Reinvigorate or Slimstat.

I like Mint as well. While it is not a traditional stats program -- I do suggest checking out crazyegg.com; it is amazing for testing based on user data/interaction!

AWStats isn't bad. It is free and the trick is to read the documentation in order for it to work nicely.

Reinvigorate looks really good, I've put my email down for an invite. Crazy Egg looks good too, I'm signing up for that in a minute :P I used to have awstats on my old server but I never got into using it, I mainly used webalizer back then and it did the job.

Crazy Egg is quite cool. The one drawback is the relatively large script file. It is more noticeable than the common fraction-of-a-second www.google-analytics.com flash we see in the loading bar. -

Yeah, its probabaly not a good idea to leave it on your site all the time, its great for new sites though, to help decide on the best placement for ads.

pulserss.com is pretty cool, they let you generate your own stats for free and publish them through RSS, XML.. etc.. check them out..
