Has anyone given any thought towards hosting localized versions of this forum? It would be kind of nice to have, say, a SkillShare Finland for example.
Not sure you'd be able to get enough people to maintain a localized version. There's also content quality issues... if moderators/administrators can't speak the language how do the know what's going on?
Not to suggest stealing any CSS Beauty thunder -- but I'd like to see everyone start and grow local versions of this forum on their own. Regardless of benefits in breaking a language barrier the power of communicating and "sharing" information with those closest to you is huge.
There are so many outlets for the topics covered here; the beauty is by far my favorite! However, sometimes it is nice to communicate, meet and collaborate with those living in the same country, state or city. It won't be easy but it will be beneficial for yourself and those like-minded. Refresh-DC has a local "forum" for those of us in Washington, D.C. that is by no means meant to be a Skill Share replacement -- but it is a nice little local outlet. Admittedly, the refresh forum gets no where near the participation that Skill Share does.
My only fear in such a comment is the over saturation in forums (that to some extent already exists).
To take it a step backwards -- a forum may be a bit much for localized versions. Perhaps a blog is in order where you post on interesting discussions happening here in Skill Share and start a new dialouge within your comments -- one that is perhaps more localized. I know personally that Skill Share discussions often inspire some of my best blog post rants.
There aren't that many outlets around in my own language. Actually, I can't think of a single one. The participation levels and the overall quality of content are the two most important reasons why I browse Skill Share daily. That in mind, a no-name startup forum wouldn't have either of those during the first few months or years. Porting Skill Share would be an ideal way to get attention from the right people right from the beginning.
Of course I understand the concern for quality control and other administrative issues. On the other hand, there must be a demand for decent forums in other european languages (among others) as well, even though English isn't a problem for most in the business.
