I am a Front-end developer and my company is looking to hire an Art director. We are an eCommerce company with about 20 websites so the Designer will have to be skilled in Web Design. I find that most of the local designers are print designers, so my question is to you guys
What are some good questions to ask a Graphic Designer or potential Art Director for a web based company focusing on developing their sites with the latest Web Standards and Design Techniques?
Since I am the Front end developer and I have a strong passion for Web Standards, Accessibility and all that I want to be able to ask some really good questions to see if the candidate will fit what we are looking for.
You are a front-end developer and you know exactly what your company needs. I would be asking questions directly relating to the needs of your projects. Judging by the fact that your company is looking for an Art Director for eCommerce products, I'm sure you would want them to have some prior experience with designing sites that have appeal and abilities to be optimized as well. Ask them some surface-level front-end questions and also find out a bit about their design mottos and beliefs of what graphic design is meant to be. You may want to stray away from the ones that respond "beautiful and extravegant," and take a second look at those that talk about "beutiful and simplistic." Those are just my thoughts, would love to hear what other people have to say.
Thanks a lot Envisean, I definitely want to hear what others have to say, I know what I would want I just want to know of some good interview questions to ask. I am definitely going to think about some surface level front-end questions and will think about the proper way to ask them about their beliefs and motto's. Thanks a lot for your thoughts and I do get a better picture of how to go about this.
