I recently redesigned / refocused my portfolio site to not only showcase myself as a designer/developer but to try and rope in freelance work and showcase my past projects as well. Can I get everyone's thoughts on it and areas in which it may need improvement? (especially in SEO).

    Thanks in advance

Overall I like it -- some minor subjective things that I don't like is the red on grey (looks okay when its red on black/dark grey) -- perhaps red in general with a grey doesn't work for me; perhaps find another color that goes well with the blue? I like when logos in the top right are clickable and I generally like when there is some hover effect on links, especially on boxes that have borders that are clickable.

Whats with the tables on "latest news" on the homepage? Seems like the last thing that would need to be table based.

I'd suggest putting a few samples from photography and web development on the homepage and then let people drill down from there -- right now Web development looks a little sparse/bare. The photography has some eye catching elements on it that could get someone who is on the verge of leaving to further engage with the site. I'd also make it clear that you are "enlarging" the thumb nails in the portfolio as opposed to going off to a third party site or another page -- might increase the chance in me clicking on it. Generally if I want the 30 seconds about you and what you can do, I will force myself NOT to click on anything I fear my take me off site -- I do only have 30 seconds to spare you know?

If you are doing this as a business, I suggest losing that gmail email and getting a you@yourdomain.com email set-up; if for nothing else than for seeming a little more legitimate. Speaking of the contact section -- I'd suggest some anchor link at the top that drops you down there. I like how you've implemented the contact area, but am fearful those without the browser at full-screen may miss it when the content is long.

    Nice Job.

The site seems more like a personal website about you, with a tony mention of your work. There isn't enough for me to want to look for your portfolio.

If you are wanting to push this as a portfolio site, I'd make that the focus.

I guess I just don't like how the main page doesn't focus on your work, as much as it does your interests.
Minimize the you, maximize the work you've done.

Also, I think having the menu in the header makes it harder to find. I'm just way to used to seeing a giant ad at the top than i am a menu. It just doesn't seem like part of your site because of the seperation caused by the line. Maybe if you combined the colors it might help. Like bring the dark gray into the part of the blue at the top. SO that there isn't that visual separation.

    Hope that helps.

Well the site is more geared towards showcasing myself as a designer/developer than it is towards getting freelance work. Almost like a resume site that shows past work and has information about myself. However, it is also a site that I could direct possible clients towards. With that focus in mind I think the site hits its target. Now that I've explained it a bit more do you guys think so as well?

I've already made some improvements to it based on suggestions so far....keep 'em coming! Feedback is the best way to continue site improvements.

    Thanks!

You may want to consider using microformats for your contact info. Just do a google for hCard for examples.

Good looking site, will update my own one day.... one day...

I think it does a good job of mixing both worlds. Telling about you, and showing portfolio work. I just wasn't sure which you were going for, but seeing as you're going for both I think it works.

    hiya,

I like the site overall, i think the navagation at the top could be more obvious. In regards to content i think that making a blog posts telling the world how you only just got your first freelance work is not a good move, for me at least, it make me wonder what the relationship between you and you past clients were.

I have done some testing to do with accsesability and webstandards and the results were no good. There are three main area which i looked at:

CSS turned off – With the CSS turned of the page is redable, but the main navagation evaporates and the site becomes unnavagational…

Images Turned – With the images turned off the site become completely unnavagationalable (hmm new word)

code sematics – looking at the actual code i see alot of presentational code mixed in with the structure. added to this alot of your class names are purly presentation and dont really sematically describe thier content. Take a look at: my heading and branding article for more infomation on the semantic heading idea.

I think adding a hcard would be a good move, but please look at te sematics of the rest of the site soon… microformats are somthing to add to an already sematic website, not somthing to drop in because they are cool (although they do that too!)

hmmmm… this has turned into quite a negative review!!!! that is not intended at all. i think the site is a Great looking site that just needs a spring clean on the code.

Keep up the great work… (actully dont keep up the great work… i need clients too! ;) )
