I know this may sound stupid, but I am relatively new to content management systems. I just started using Joomla, and I need to get better at using it, I am more comfortable using something very simplistic and basic, like WordPress.
I have this idea of WordPress being an application that allows one to just post news/blog articles, and nothing else. I have seen it being incorporated into many websites and blogs through various templates designs that are custom made. I was wondering, is it possible to use WordPress to create new content pages like Joomla and edit and manage them whenever I need to? I know I should explore other content management systems that are out there, but I need to know, since I have been asked several times about this, since a client of mine would like to avoid using it.
Besides using Joomla, has anyone used Mephisto (http://mephisto.stikipad.com/help/show/What+is+Mephisto)? It looks like it is easy to use and to integrate into a website. The only problem that I face is getting a static web design to be coded and implemented, without any problems.
Yes word press can be used to manage entire sites. However you may like to try using Drupal. Its pretty good and the code that it outputs is WAY better than Joomla. Joomlas cos is not W3C compliant and uses tables instead of <div>'s
The backend developers here swear by Drupal as well, if you got the skills in that area
Otherwise Macromedia Contribute is a good CMS pseudo tool that doesn't rely on a database structure or specific coding language. I have used Contribute on as big a project as http://www.legalandgeneral.com and http://www.vjv.co.uk
I love Wordpress for both as just a blog setup, but I love it for CMS too, if the site you're working on is giant, it might be better to go with Expression Engine, or Joomla, but if it's just a medium sized site, then Wordpress can probably do whatever it is you need it to do.
Wordpress would be the last choice in my list for picking up a blog application and no way I would use for CMS. MT was always my first selection for the blog or even managing the website far advanced and better then Wordpress.
Maybe its been awhile since you've seen wordpress, its awesome. I was using b2evolution about 3yrs ago and didnt like wordpress but switched a few months ago. The admin is super clean and easy to use. Their code is well written and nice also.
