So I just bought a Macbook Pro a few weeks ago and I downloaded Coda, which totally kicks ass. Long story short after the trial ended, I bought a copy and I've been using it extensively since.

The problem is, I do a lot of coding on my desktop as well (windows xp), and now my notepad / editpad combination just doesn't seem to cut it anymore. So I was wondering what applications do you guys use for coding (xhtml, css, javascript, php, and etc.) on the windows platform?

I use Dreamweaver's code view when I'm stuck on Windows. I know there's a stigma attached to using Dreamweaver, but nothing else I've found on Windows beats it.

I think alot of the Dreamweaver backlash is a result of coders in the past who moved elements around in the 'Design View' with no regard for the HTML Dreamweaver was actually generating in the background. If you use 'Code View' to do everything by hand, it's still a fine editor equipped with a ton of shortcut tools and helpers. The FTP feature is nice, as are the Files/Snippets/Assets tabs.

notepad++ is the best pc text editor if you don't mind the lack of auto-complete for tags... Much better than TextPad... I especially like the clone view feature for split screen views of the same or multiple pages of code, very handy!

    hiya,

on windows i use phpdesinger which is a great little tool, and dreamweaver in code view (loving tag auto complete) make writing CSS alot quicker!

    hope that helps,

I've struggled finding a good, reliable Windows program for text editing as well before, and I found JEdit for Windows. Its a great alternative for TextMate when I am not on my mac.

I use Eclipse + Web Standard Tools + PHP Development Tools + Adobe JSEclipse on every platform I need (Linux at home, WinXP/OSX at work).

I use dreamweaver as well, design view is usually broken (even in cs3) when using extensive css based layouts, but it is just faster to develop in dreamweaver and you can have it work off ftp for however many sites you have. Also dreamweaver has code recognition for PHP, which is just great, because searching through PHP you wrote a year ago is kind of hard when it is all the same color. There is also stylemaster and topstyle which people like for css, but eh. Also I love the ability to collapse code in dreamweaver. A lot of the function in PHP you know you won't be changing can be just collapsed, making it easier to modify the other functions.
