Short Term Work with engineering teams to design features for Firefox 3, providing mockups and interaction flows and input on bugs marked ui-wanted. Frequently review in-development builds and file bugs on user interface design issues, then drive them through to resolution.
Long Term Assist with planning and development of broad user-interface improvements for Firefox 4 and beyond. Work on user-feedback data gathering activities such as lab-based user testing and the development of instrumentation frameworks for collecting long-running usage data. Guide and assist in managing volunteer and community based user-interface design efforts. Help to develop systems for getting more community contribution in the area of user interface design.
Job Description
This position is for someone who has the skills to help with the design and implementation of the user interfaces of Mozilla products and technologies. The position requires someone who is good at prioritizing user interface issues in order to hit product delivery targets, and someone who is familiar with the process of shipping software. There's always a lot that can be done to improve the user interface of a product, the successful candidate will be good at deciding what should be done.
Tasks and responsibilities will include supporting the design of in-progress work, conceptualizing and proposing new user interface designs, and creating design prototypes and mockups for these proposals.
The position requires:
* an academic background in one or more of user interface design, software development, human computer interaction, or graphic design. * 2+ yrs experience designing user interfaces for user-facing applications, and having worked on at least 1 such application that has shipped, * a strong communicator who is able to work in a self-directed fashion with remote teams * experience working in large teams, open source experience will be an asset * 2+ yrs experience creating mockups or prototypes * 2+ yrs experience with user interface development tools and techniques * experience with HCI methodologies such as card sorting, lab-based user feedback testing, persona development, cognitive task analysis, etc.
Preference will be given to candidates who are familiar with web technologies, web applications and open source communities.
