Hey guys what software r u using for your designs? i'am mainly interested in windows software. So far i've used Gimp, but i am interested in buying a license for a commercial product, which one do you recommand/use and why?
firefox fireworks is good for web mockups where you want easy support for making everything pixel perfect... and has some good patterns built in that are useful for tiled gifs etc, although it can't render un-antialiased text very well... but yeah photoshop most o' time.
Firefox is not a graphics editor. (Unless I've missed the graphics manipulation plug-in?) Maybe he meant Macromedia's Fireworks?
I primarily use Photoshop. I've had some experience with Fireworks, and it works well. I know Photoshop like the back of my hand though, so switching to another program isn't worth my time.
More on that issue, after adobe's purchase of macromedia last year I was really expecting more on the Fireworks 8. I am a dedicated user of Fireworks for mock-ups as I see other people are. However I didn't find any useful upgrades on that last version so Photoshop still has the upper hand no matter what
Macromedia's latest design & developement software suite (including Dreamweaver, Fireworks & Flash 8) was completed before the ink dried on the Adobe agreement.
Look for big changes to come down the pike in the next installment of this software. I predict a discontinuation of Fireworks. They will most likely incorporate the improved web/graphics features of Fireworks into the latest edition of Photoshop. Freehand is already cancelled in favor of Illustrator (hopefully some of Freehand's ease of use will be seen in future installments of Illustrator). It will be interesting to see whether the company runs with the GoLive or Dreamweaver platform for the next release of their coding software.
i use photoshop. it's pretty easy to learn if you're a beginner.i think it is the most popular graphic app so for sure there is a lot of resources out there. tutorials and goodies.
I use Photoshop, i like it, but earlier i used Macromedia Fireworks. Fireworks is very good for creating layouts, its price is three times as low as photoshop, i also do not think it will be kept alive as a independent software in the Adobe+Macromedia family. And a macromedia dealer told me also that Fireworks is going to be decapitated. And anyway do not use gimp, it is not good for you...
it's quite sad to hear that about Fireworks. I love the ease of work and its simplicity in doing everyday minimal tasks. I found Photoshop to be unrationally complex for doing simple mock-ups or plain cropping.
I do use Photoshop, yet the departure of Fireworks in the near future will be missed by the masses , i think
Agreed... I find that Fireworks intuitively lets me create pixel perfect items, fills, dimensions, where as in Photoshop it take a wee bit more work to lay things out. Would be a shame to see it go :-(
<tongue in cheek> any selfrespecting designer uses the industry standards, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign. Corel Draw (bah, just put because it has some value) Dreamweaver, Firewirks, imageready, Flash.</tongue in cheek>
I'm a bit late to this discussion but I wonder, is it possible to cut it with Photoshop Elements or is the professional suite a necessity? I have an occasional need to create graphics for freelance/personal projects but I'm not sure I can afford to buy CS2...
