    Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in finding a product/ backend system to plug into a site featuring band gigs/events/festivals. Has anyone built a site like this or have any suggestions? Much appreciated.

    Hi Jo,

I didn't build these sites but, as back-end systems go, it's worth looking at Drupal.

    popmontreal.com.

    MTV UK

    UFF International Film Festival site

    or

Project Opus which is like a myspace + music sales + gig listings site for bands.artists. Drupal is open source and the guys who built Project Opus have made their code available, for free, on Drupal.org.

Warner Bros, Sony BMG and other companies like google have sponsored a lot of Drupal development, which means their modules are open source and available from Drupal.org as well. Here's a list of notable music sites that might give you an idea to what sort of functionality is available.

    hope that helps

Thanks Dub, i love the Pop Montreal website, that's definitely along the lines of what I want to create. I will look into Drupal, I'm interested to see how designer-friendly is it though! :)

@PettyRider: The project opus site loads extremely quickly for me (I'm on broadband).

The MTV site (based on Drupal) loads much slower for me than project opus....but, I wouldn't point the finger at Drupal for that, there are a lot of flash/media player elements being loaded as well as the site, which will slow down any site.

@pixellounge: I agree, the Pop Montreal site is very good.

It's also lightening fast when loading.
