I've been skulking the boards for a couple days now and have finally decided to participate. Theres a TON of great sites and tutorials coming off of this community, thanks to the owner(s) of the site for providing this forum!
Anyway, I have a website I'm currently making for a client, and I really wanted to go with the whole Web 2.0 methodology/philosophy, and I was wondering what you guys might think of it. I'm looking for critiques and or suggestions to help me improve. I'm primarily a back-end developer but have a strong desire to become a better Front End developer so any and all constructive criticism is welcome.
Theres hardly any content because I am waiting on the client to provide all the textual aspects of the site. But I am interested in what your thoughts are on font choice, color choice, layout etc...
Thanks in advance to all who take the time to peek at it.
As a designer I have a recommendation (I hope you understand my basic English):
I would basically pay more attention to the identity of the site.
"Utica Music Fest" appears twice in the page (the header and the banner) and they don't look alike, they don't have a visual relationship and they should. The banner feels like an independent ad, it feels like it is not part of the site, but it is refering to something else, not to the Utica Music Fest.
The design should communicate "music" and "festival" as soon as you see it, right now seems too generic, you could paste any information there, real state, generic news, etc. is kind of having just the html without styles.
May be just a logo would do the work.
I hope you don't feel my observations as offensive or too rude, my English level is so basic and I don't know yet how to say things in a more polite manner.
You can probably make the body font a bit smaller (and therefore less scrolling). Also, I almost missed the navigation links as they are off to the top right of the page, which on my screen, are several inches away! I personally like the links to be near to the body more. Same goes for the logo text.
I mirror jairoebl's comment that a new logo design may help.
And finally, I think you need more pictures as this is an entertainment event - it should be fun and exciting, not just plain text.
