I'm new here, wanted to introduce myself. I'm Mike, and I'm a freelance web designer living in SW Virginia up in the mountians. I left Baltimore because I was tired of the city and needed to go somewhere I could relax and work. Thanks to the internet I can do it pretty much anywhere. It's supposed to be seventy degrees tomorrow and we're going to go hike through the valley to the New River... the little reasons I do this crazy work :)
My website is www.webmajor.com and I wanted to see if anyone had any tips, ideas, feedback? I have ads on local Craigslist sites and am using Freelance Switch's job board and a few other resources. Have about six projects going right now so I am busy, but they say that's the time to line up the next six.
Welcome! Good site. One suggestion: your homepage banner needs more emphasis. I do not like the picture you chose for the banner - it is good to showcase a past work, however, pick a better design. I looked at your portfolio and you have better work in my opinion. But your best image forward. Remember that many visitors will look at your home page and then leave if they are not interested.
Also, play around with your navigation bar - you might be able to make it look better as well.
Otherwise looks great! I also admire your location in Virginia! Up here in Minnesota it is -15 F !
-15F is cold! I was in Canada last year and experienced some temperatures like that and am not jealous. Thanks for your compliments on the site.
When you say the homepage banner, do you mean the gray box in the middle of the page? I don't understand what you mean by "do not like the picture you chose for the banner" ? If you can elaborate that would be great.
I was going for simple on the navigation, but maybe it needs something more. Maybe text under the headings to explain what each is... or a background image for each li... I don't know.
I am talking about the "We make web easy.." banner. I love the text and layout, but for the image part (your past work on the right), but something more stylish if possible.
