I need this page tested in many many browsers, after that its all free...if it all works.. its taken me 2 weeks to get it bug free and working fluidly.
Don't need design/graphics comments.. just if its all working correctly codewise for everyone.. feel free to turn off your java and scripting in your browsers .. since thats the eventual goal. PURE CSS

Final verson can be seen here... just DL and unzip ... run index.html
Some files can still be compressed by removing annotations and whitespace [CSS and html].
Some files are duplicated ..since working on the desktop does not allow for web server absolute paths ... but those are only image files .. since I stuck them in the style DIR because of the path.
If this has no bugs I intend to post it for all to use and leave the included annotation in for those needing them.
I have tested it in IE7 and firefox and get no error popups.. amazing for IE.... but of course if you have multiple browsers it would be nice to get it checked over ...

So if anyone wnats to check out a complete CSS webpage including full drop multi level.menus and rollovers .. no scripts at all ...
SOURCE is available here @ ftp://arcnexus.net:2111/anonymous/XHTML_CONTAINER.zip

pleasepost here or sign the guestbook to let me know what errors are found or alternatively ..[the code .. not the layout].... what you think of it ..?

Um... not meaning to be unkind, but you should try running your index page through the W3C validator- 522 errors at the time I'm typing this :o)

However, it displays ok in Opera 9.

thanks Xman... thats five brorwsers now .... still need to find some safari users and a few other esoteric ones to test it in .....

safari is a macintosh Apple browser I think...do they still make those computers ??? LOL..

    thanks for the assist Xman....
i will validate it later but I expect its a bunch of small typos mostly or attributes not recognized that are actually needed for the other browsers ...like winX IE models especially ...
I think we can do better than 522 also ... go for the big numbers .. LOL

checked the three css files and have 10 errors .. all small typos that are easily fixed except for a named attribute ** hand ** which does not exist but is needed for IE...otherwise IE wants to put an i beam cursor there..
    25 warnings .. mostly typos also ...

but so far so good... they are all lminor and can be fixed except for the hand one.
will check the html page later on ... with a different declaration .. like 4 transitional ..

still need page checked in safari ... IE 5 ... and some of the more esoteric browsers..
So far it displays correctly {{ Meaning the same in all }} in IE 7 & 6.. firefox ..all ...seamonkey and Opera 9....

so if you have a safari browser or a linux proprietary browser ...AOL .. etc...out there help us out....and let us knw if it displays correctly ....only way we can find the erors to make it truly cross platform .
  3.  permalink
51 errors in 4.1 html transitional... and a lot of them are in the declaration and header area ... so hopefully not too much sorting it out...

putting a strict XML declaration in was just fun .. LOL

thanks again Xman .... hopefully I can sort them all in a single day and still get it to display the same in all browsers ...

anyway.. new zip takes place of old one so its up to date...
    ftp://arcnexus.net:2111/anonymous/XHTML_CONTAINER.zip

Try this as an alternative- W3C valid xhtml 1.1, no tables, no hacks, a bit over 40kb all up (as opposed to the 127kb version I downloaded from you earlier), including a total of 14 images and it works and displays correctly in Opera 9, Firefox 2 and IE6 & 7. It uses a 'Son of Suckerfish' style menu.
    http://www.thexman.net.nz/grc/

This is what I meant earlier about there being more efficent ways to tackle that page- and there are bound to be even better ways of doing it than mine, after all, I am not be any means an expert at this. I know you were hoping to have yours completely free of JavaScript, but I personally believe that having the single 396byte snippet to make the menu work in IE6, is a far superior trade-off to the massive (but still impressive), css-only system you are implementing.

    Just food for thought...

I must apologise myself- it might be a week or so before I can help you... My main computer (with all my work on it...), has been taken out by a power failure. My UPS, PSU and possibly the graphics card, all gone, so until it has been repaired, I am virtually crippled.

Hope your eye comes right fairly soon.

thats sad to hear.... I was looking forward to a mixing of elements to create the perfect CSS page.. LOL....

I hope it works out all right for you .. and please keep me in mind since I would be able to assist you with a small payment should you be able to help me on this xhtml and CSS idea...

buying a 500 gig drive today to rebuild website from scratch .. with a clean install ... so hopefully by next week i will have something online thats more definative overall ...
I hope to hear from you soon .. until then I will be researching schema in order to have some better knowledge for compiling pages...
good luck with your comps and thanks for thehelp so far...

PS.. eye should be able to take a new prescription in april the docs say ... est 3 -6 months recovery and original operation was dec 7 ... still a long long time ...

good luck repairing computers Xman.. lets hope your back soon.

    browsershot.org check this website! ;)

all I get is a redirect to a template sales site...for browsershot.org... that wont help any of us learn ... and expand limits on design....thats also the second sales pitch in this thread ... not very helpful; either of them unless I wanted to spend money and not learn things while doing it...

    oh well ...
  9.  permalink
The services are not "sales pitches". I suggest you use one of the browser testing services mentioned (browsercam is particularly good as you can use the virtual desktop feature and debug (see: learn) rather than just see static images) to complete your debugging task. Repeatedly asking all of us to check you site in every browser under the sun in multiple threads is getting a bit tedious.

Professionals use these services. Yes they cost money, but that's the price of doing business. Thanks.

gujjar's advice is actually very good and I would also recommend browsershots.org. Note how the site's address is browsershots.org not browsershot.org. It's amazing how a slight spelling mistake can cause so much confusion!

my apologies for the typo ... I understand now the browsershots idea.. very nice. and thank you ...and to the best of my knowledge its only this one thread asking for testing.... the other was actually for completiing the css ...

again my apologies ....and if a mod views this feel free to delete this thread and the other in CSS I started ....

Oh, and cheers for the "thanks", dave_o, but what was it for?
