The site was built using Drupal and it's the first time I attempted a bottom-up, css theme for Drupal (i.e. i disabled all the default drupal css files and built it from scratch).
the first impression is very positive. The layout is very clear. You can easily get an overview of the site, it's obvious, which elements are clickable and which are not. Fortunately NOT to small body text size!, finally someone who understood this :).
Discography: I would like vertically centered rows very much.
music & lyrics: What about some basic sorting functions (possibility to sort list by album name or title would be a nice add-on)
online shop: cleaner add-to-cart image needed! I know, gifs are easy to handle, since IE6 causes some trouble with transparent pngs, but I would spare no effort on such a little thing because it destroys the overall professional look of the site. There are possibilitys to make transparent pngs render correctly in IE6.
tour dates: again, vertically centered alignment of the rows. From the first look, you don't know which dates belong to which images and its hard to read because the structure breakes.
This are only small things, the overall design of your site is great. It is clear, usable and accessable, as well as visually appealing. A very hard to achieve combination, and you did it. However, I would suggest you to fix the points above (I tried to be objective), because they can make the difference between your actual professional design and a perfect design.
many thanks for the comprehensive feedback Dave. Appreciate it. When putting it together you're staring at it for so long, it's hard to be objective about it.
Totally agree on everything you said. The sortable audio section has a drupal bug (the sort doesn't work) butr I think I can fix that.
Agree about the tours page. will have to come up with an alternate layout for the tour listings to include special guests for the actual date.
Cleaner add-to-cart image needed! - yep. it does look a little scraggly on the edges. It maybe because I have a transparent thing going on in the background of the tables. Will look at it again.
Anyway...thanks again for taking time to look at it.
Personally, I like sites that have the page centered in the middle of the page, especially on large monitors. You may want to add "margin:0 auto;" tag to the body part of the css and see if that centers the page for you. If you do this, also make the footer width 100% but with the footer text in the middle.
Love the bakground and very easy to read - some sites that are dark are too hard to read.
The title tag should have 'records' capitalized: Septic Tiger Records, not Septic Tiger records
Finally, for the home page welcome text, consider this change:
Welcome to the official website for Septic Tiger Records - featuring the recordings of Jinx Lennon.
It is straight to the point, more grammatically correct, and may be able to fit on just two lines rather than spilling over into three.
Try blending the background image into the background color more smoothly - with a 1680 X 1050 res I can see the right and bottom edge of the picture very clearly.
