I am a Edinburgh based CSS/XHTML web designer/developer with 4 years commercial experience, large graphic design portfolio with an honours degree. My girlfriend and I are hoping to move abroad next year to work and one of the countries is on our shortlist.

I know the US is one of the countries everyone wants to get into for employment but I just wondered what the job market is like in the U.S. for our industry. The large cities like New York and LA I'm sure are extremely competitive but wasn't sure about other cities.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi,
There are a couple of questions and factors you may want to consider, mainly transportation.

What type of transportation would you prefer to use to commute to/from work and home? Would you prefer to own a car or use a public transportation (bus, subway, etc.)?

Big cities such as NYC, Boston, or Washington, D.C. have subways so you don't have to worry about owning a car. However, having your own vechicle or taking a bus would be the preferred transportation methods in such states as California, Colorado, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Florida, etc.

Some ride their own bicycles to commute. These are common in such cities as Portland, Oregon or Madison, Wisconsin.

Each state is different so not all of the states are the same.

Anyhow, some city research you may want to look into would probably help you before making a decision -
