Freelancing: Hours spent on a project

    I'm wondering how many hours does it take for you to create a design from the idea till you're ready to create the templates? I'm speaking only about the time you spend in Photoshop or the like. I know the amount of time can vary a lot depending on the requirements, but how many in average (for some mid-sized project)?

    And how do you usually bill your clients - per hour or per project? And why?

    30min-5 hours on layout/graphics work usually.
    Bill per project because usually that's what client wants. If they know they are picky they will do that because they will end up spending more money on changes vs just paying once.

    From start to finish to convert from an image to an HTML document with CSS/JS, it takes me ~2 hours.*

    *Start to finish includes testing in all browsers, formatted, etc.

    I've commented on this topic before so I'll make this brief... I usually bill by the hour because a) the project usually changes at some point from the time I start designing to the time it's complete and b) it shows that my time is valuable

    2 hours to convert to HTML for all browsers! Wow! Will you do some of my layouts for me ;-)
