I made the mistake of not checking often enough in IE. It seemed to be working at some point in time. I was trying to get a mock up for a client very soon.
Any suggestions? Am I just tempting fate by using CSS as awkwardly as I am? Who is at fault: me, firefox, or IE. That's all I need to know. Maybe I'll take screenshots for the client.
Horizontal Scroll @ 1024x768 in Firefox 1.5.2, Fine in Opera, bad in IE.
It looks horrid with JS disabled.
I suggest using images as your side boxes and creating a div as wide as your content + box images and put the box background image on the left with padding for the content equal to the width of the box so they show fine.
If I may say, the boxes really don't add anything (unless they're for content, in which case, they should have a background image anyways) so you would probably be better off without them.
