I recently bought myself a domain and some hosting that came with cpanel preinstalled.
Since then I've been using the AWSTATS inside Cpanel to keep track of how my website is doing and who is visiting it, from where, what search engine results got me the visitors and so forth.
Are there other free alternatives (improvements) for AWSTATS ? What do you use to monitor traffic on your website?
I think you are looking for script which will show you stats with your own website rather then logging to other sites to see results. Best way is to custom made few lines of PHP script and include it in all files, light weight, compact, i prefer. Otherwise Google Ananalytics is excellent, too modern and gives you many reports.
actually I am going for a pre-built module to monitor my website, not something that would integrate into my website.
Also, apart form being "information-fluffy" awstats encourages me to make structural remodeling and, to some extent, influences my internet marketing strategy. For example it allows me to see how much time people stay on my website and also what pages do they visit as opposed to what pages am I trying to emphasize.
@cmac I've heard of mint and did some snooping around its feature, but can you please point out the major advantages of it as related to other, simmilar ones
I keep hearing nice things about mint, yet after seeing their demo I am still not convinced what makes it more efficient than awstats. I also noticed it does not cover aspects awstats does. It looks fresh though ;)

I tried to use it but, it didn't work. There was just some : We will let you know, when we'll be able to take you your own account. Can you help me with it, please? I really want, because my mate used it, now he is using something else ...
Good point. I've applied for an invitation but I don't know how long it will take. If anyone has any invitations to spare please say so. I am interestend in Google analytics too.
I have mint setup for http://www.shaunandrews.com but haven't set it up for any of my other site due to the $30 per domain fee. I've settled for Google Analytics (Urchin), which does have a delay as nifkin stated. They're both pretty cool, mint is a lot slicker of a interface, and the peppers have been amazingly useful, along with the dashboard widget. Google Analytics plugs into my AdWords campaigns which is pretty cool. Unfortunately Ive hit my limit in Google Analytics, you can only have five domains setup right now, bu they're supposed to be removing that restriction at some point...
