The shuffle contest was put on hold due to lack of time, however I've started to work on it again and should be ready within a week or two.

I will use the forums to keep everyone updated from now on.

    Alex.

I'm also looking forward to it. A great way to improve your skills. Learn by doing. Long time ago, I used to participate in Version 2 as well.

I don't want to sound cantankerous, but is it still frozen? Maybe it should be removed if it's not going to happen? Or is it?

You can read my latest reply about it here

I do want to get it going, but I just can't find time. I might just ask for somebody to help me set it up.

Now that a significant amount of time has passed, prices have changed and new technologies have arrived -- can it be CSSNano now? How about CSSiPodVideo -- not the same ring to it as CSS Shuffle, but very exciting!

Mainly coming up with the rules. Maybe I'll list the rules in the forum for people to help with ideas.

Shuffle = random... that's the idea, not because of the ipod shuffle. You can read the description of the contest here http://www.cssbeauty.com/shuffle/.

btw. those are some really dumb names for a contest. ;)

There has barely been any progresss... I think I will need all you guys' help to come up with the main rules. Once that's in place, then we can go ahead with it.

So what do you guys say? wanna help?

I guess the only thing that needs to be straightened out is which browsers to design for.

What do you think of this to start:

Rule #1: Must be a table-less design (seperation of presentation and structure).
Rule #2: HTML and CSS must validate

    Optional
Rule #3: File Size Limitation (restrictions on total file size: including images, CSS, html and javascript), say 50k max?
Rule #4: Must present properly in the latest final releases of IE (for PC), Firefox, Opera, Netscape and Safari (lets not get to strict with this, it is a fun contentst -- not a total headace).

I thought we built on top of an XHTML document, not created our own? It should just be CSS, no Javascript.

i think you're right, my appologizes. Functioning like ZenGarden i remember hearing.

Should there be size limitation on the CSS used?

Anyone want to be the first to prepare the XHTML base that everyone will be working from? I am sure droppyale will want to edit it, but at least we will have something for him to start with.

    Base XHTML file
    No images
Size limit for the .CSS file (3~5kb?)
No Javascript or other technologies (only use XHTML and CSS)
No inline-styles (only if we are allowed to modify the XHTML file)
CSS must validate / XHTML must validate to Strict 1.0 (only if we are allowed to modify the XHTML file)
Should degrade gracefully in older browsers

    Anything new on this subject?
  4.  permalink
    Yeah! how about another rule....

Each shuffle must included a particular CSS method/technique for that months competition. This could help to teach people as well as keeping it fun! Something like 'this months shuffle must include external links which have been styled in CSS' or this months shuffle 'must include a 'a 2 column layout'.

    just a suggestion :)
  5.  permalink
Alex... Just take the shuffle contest off the site; it's never going to happen.

    just a suggestion :)

I've got an idea for an overarching rule...how about we all agree not to advertise phantom products.
I love your site, but advertising something that is non-existent is just a source of resentment...just remove the banner.

Keep up the good work otherwise

Why don't we just pick a theme and, say, five basic rules and just go for it? It'll be easier to learn from the first round of shuffle-testing than it is to figure the whole thing out from scratch.
