I have opened a new hosting account which gives me ample space (3gb) to run a small but decent freelance practice. I am curious the best way to host my files on the server, for testing area/client area.

Should I just use a subdomain like clients.domain.com and just add folders for each client ie: clients.domain.com/newclient/ or should I create a subdomain newclient.clients.domain.com. I am looking for a secure, organized way to keep quality control over these files...

If someone can shed some experience or advice, I would greatly appreciate it.

if you need to offer a client access to files directly on your server a subdomain is the secure way to do so. this isolates clients form seeing eachoter's files and also keeps them away from yours. as long as you give FTP access it's best to keep things organised and offer only the necessary files to a certain client.

In my opinion it's also nice to use a subdomain in order to show progress on a project, thogh it's the same like using a folder. This just adds a touch of class and shows a client that he/she is cared for.

    Darren -

Our clients like it that we create a subdomain for them (client.domain.com), rather than a folder (domain.com/client). Presents us as the developer while putting the client first - literally. ;)

    That's my 2 cents. :^{>
