Hello all! Everyone has been so helpful and supportive here...I thought I'd put out a question to you!

I am getting ready to do a complete re-design of my www.keenwebdesign.com site. I am going from Homestead (and a design I created ages ago) to a CSS only web format. My dilemma is all the different things I offer. I offer the following services: web design, graphics design (logos, banners, stationary, business cards, etc), branding, some marketing, media conversion (audio/video & training media - from tape to disc) and entertainment.

The 'entertainment' is my dilemma. I am a professional singer/songwriter that performs, provides 'voice overs', voice talent options, as well as sound & lighting for small businesses, corporate events, lights & sound for bands, and Lights & sound for entertainment events (weddings, parties, etc.). I have a web site for my singing abilities...but I wanted to add the music side into the business somehow.

My question is this... I'm currently listed as Keen Web Design. I would like your opinion on how to 'rename' the company... I have thought about Keen Web, Media & Entertainment Production...but that's a mouthful.

    Suggestions welcome!

Oops, I just realized I stuck this in the wrong category! I'm moving it over to 'Anything Goes'

    Thanks!

That is a mouthful -- I say keep it simple and short as well as easy to remember and repeat. The term "creative" is broad enough it covers all of your bases -- try working with that. Your name does not need to identify the entire universe of what you do exactly; that is what your tagline should be focusing on. I persoanlly get turned off by much stranger skill combinations like "Web design and tax services" -- something more appropriate would be related more to "business solutions".

Might be "cute" to play with the concept of "word of mouth' -- it is a strong advertising/marketing term and the relationship in proper context could be made between that and a voiceover as well as singing attributes.

    mringlein...

good advice...I guess what I was trying to do was to keep away from having to create separate sites...separate company names, etc. for all the services I provide. I have (at this point about 4 different companies that I own and manage)...obviously all a sole employee driven company. I am a singer (so I own the sound & lights & recording equipment), I am a web designer (which is the current site format), then I have a cross stitch design side, and I am in 4 bands (1 classic rock, 1 jazz, 1 swing, and an Andrews Sisters act). I guess the better path is to create a new site for Entertainment, Sound, Production and lump that into that category?

    :-)
    Thanks!
    Lynn

No, i agree with what you originally wanted to accomplish -- dont create 4 unqiue identies -- just identify what each of them have in common and build your brand around that core focus. I can see a few, "creative", "talent", "artistic" perhaps even "style"? a brand like "stylishtalent.com" might be appropriate.

With each of your ventures (expcept possibly the band), "YOU" are the core product -- people are paying you and infact investing in you and what you can offer (your voice, your design skills, your expereince). As i write, i more and more like the focus of "talent". Don't be humble -- let your clients know you know you are talented; that is why they are coming to you (unless you're not talented and just really really cheap).

How about shortening the business name to "Keen Media", which is all-inclusive of your various ventures, plus it has the added "word play" value of the various meanings of the word "keen".

I think merging everything to one site is appropriate, with sections to handle the different functions. You might consider providing a thumbnail screenshot of each entry in your portfolio.

    That's my 2 cents. :^{>
