    I've just seen a great example of hide/show at:
    http://www.e5media.com/

    Does anyone know how to achieve this effect?

    Any help much appreciated.

    I don't know what that site uses (didn't bother to check), but the same effect can be achieved using the moo.fx JavaScript library. You can get it here: http://moofx.mad4milk.net/

    Most examples from the Scriptaculous library can be edited to accomodate for lots of cool show/hide/slide/scroll effects.

    They're using Script.aculo.us.

    There's also built-in hide/show/slideUp/slideDown/fadeOut/fadeIn functions in jQuery as well (which I find far easier to work with).
