Does anyone have any idea why my website (I designed) look different on the laptop then a regular computer monitor? The color changes.

I've actually noticed this on many websites. I can look at it on the monitor and it looks fine then I look at it on the laptop and the color looks different.

Is there anyway to fix this or can I safely say it's the laptop and not me?

Please give any tips or ideas you have.. Please take a look for yourself.

This a plain simple website the background color should be a tan color but on Laptops it shows up gray... seewebsitenow {dot} com/nord/sample.htm

My only thought is that I'll have to use web safe colors, but I'm not sure that'll even make a differerence as some of the colors I used are websafe and they still look different.

Please ignore the text this is just a picture, I'll ultimatly use CSS to format the text and so fourth.

    Thanks!!

After putting that link up above someone is using my website address offering free web hosting, how do I report this? I just changed it so that hopefully this doesn't happen again.. URGHGHGHGH

Flat panel displays for computers (laptops) are typically LCD screens.

If you're using a CRT monitor the colors display differently. LCDs are usually brighter. This is not your fault per se, but you should be aware of the differences when choosing a color palette.

Its most likely because your monitors are callibrated different. Every monitor is going to display something different than another, dependant on the settings. Even two monitors of the exact same make and model might display colors slightly differently when using the same settings because of age or lighting conditions.

This is a huge topic and hard to cover breifly. You should compare to several other monitors to see what your results are.

Welcome to the land of designing for the web. :P Its a whacky, inconsistant place for sure. Can't tell you the number of times a client has griped at me for using the wrong color when his monitor was skewed 30% more towards blue, was at 50% brightness and was in direct sunlight.
