I have just built a site for a guy, and I know he's interested in how many people visit his site, and maybe from where, but thats about it. Is there a simple stat machine I can setup or use to let him know some really simple site statistics. I think mint would be too much, and the same with Google Analytics. StatCounter grosses me out.

    Any help would be great!

There’s slimstat but it’svery similar to mint. The code is based from shortstat which was an earlier version of mint which was developed by Shaun Inman.

    Okay, nobody laugh!!! Seriously.....
As stated in a similar post -- I use Google Analytics, but I ALSO use Bravenet's free "site tracking" service. I love the interface! And unlike Google Analytics, it updates instantly. One of the best features is the "Referrers" -- it will tell you the exact URL that someone followed to get to your site, even exact search terms used.

I use CSS to hide the visual button required and have customized the JS so the HTML validates.
The visual colorful graphs and charts as well as easy to use export to excel functionality might be perfect for your situation with your particular client.

Sorry Martin, I'm still laughing at you :P

For what it is (a free hosted web stats program), Bravenet's "Free Website Statistics" isn't that bad. Only thing is your web stats are publicly accessible to anyone, and some people prefer to keep their web stats to themselves.

I personally use SlimStat and Google Analytics nowadays. I used to use Refer as well, but SlimStat does the job fine anyway... at least until you start to get hit with referrer spam.

Depending on the site I use a mix of mint, google analytics and thecounter.com.
