I sometimes use WS FTP Pro. It's not great, but I mean, how much does an FTP client really need to do? Mostly though, I use the FTP within my text-editor. It's great because you can just drag and drop from a project pane into the FTP pane. Makes for good workflow. Edit, drag, drop, refresh in browser, repeat.

My text editor is a BETA program called PHP Designer.

I use Dreamweaver's FTP and/or CuteFTP at home and use Windows Explorer when at work or another computer. I like Dreamweaver for a variety of other reasons -- so it it just more convenient to do everything from there.

After your post, I try to learn DW's FTP Option and I got some ideas. And I feel the Check in Check out method is good. I didn't check DW's FTP before this. How do you feel?? Is it good to use? Is it insecure?

    Thanks For your information

DW FTP is suck big one. Note: ( DW suck in general but if you WYSIWYG I guess it works)
Slow for starting and does sometimes strange stuff.
I prefer to use manual WS FTP PRO. It does has some ocasional bugs but in general it work fine. Which software doesn't!
I also checked most FTP clients on a market and WS FTP PRO far better then anything else out there.
Also if you using win XP you can use internal FTP client that windows has you can simply drag and drop files from you desktop to remote computer.

    Cheers, DS

    I use netDrive and FileZilla

I love NetDrive because its lets you map your FTP server just like a local drive. you can edit files exactly like you would be editing local file on your computer.

    More information here: http://www.engadget.com/2005/10/25/how-to-map-a-drive-to-your-ftp-server/
    Download it from here: http://www.loyola.edu/5555/netdrive/applications/netdrive.exe

DW's FTP is as secure as CuteFTP and WS FTP. I like it just because I already use Dreamweaver (why is for another discussion).

It really depends what your specific FTP needs are. If you are simply grabing and placing files onto a server, its just going to come down to interface, ease of use and cost! When you are playing with it -- go to "expand view", it will look more like a traditional FTP client. If you are using Dreamweaver already as your text editor, then it makes total sense to use it. If you code in another editor, then it seems unproductive to JUST use DW for FTP.

I'm using the good old FilleZilla, becouse you can choose what editing program you want for quick on-server editing. For me that would be Notepad 2

I'm considering kicking in $$ for sftpDrive...

    http://www.sftpdrive.com/

...so I don't have to make drag/drop FTP transfers at all - just save files right on the server.

I've tried out some "FTP save" type software before and I didn't really like it too much. This is a huge area of personal preference. I enjoy updating a file, ctrl+s, drag, drop, get on with life.

fireFTP anyone? it's a firefox extension.
it has automatic update so you can just drag-drop file after you edited it (without havaing to refresh, change folder and come back etc).

and then control-tab, change the tab and refresh

Flash FXP is very fast and efficient. By the way, dreamweaver is NOT even good for WYSIWYG - unless you are using tables for styling (retch).

When I'm in Dreamweaver I use its FTP features.
In Windows, I use WS-FTP Pro. it's really good, no fancy crap IMHO, that's what an FTP app should be.
On my Mac, I have Transmit. I hate it though. Anyone can recommend me something that can match up to WS-FTP Pro on Windows?

Dreamweaver will display CSS Layouts correctly if your CSS layouts are really correct and proper, especially positioning.

some time before, DW, isn't great but it was comfortable toi me to get all features in one program.

Now, i use gedit and gFTP, Sometimes Eclipse/Aptana but i still don't like it.
NVU sucks, Quanta+ does strange things, but gFTP + gedit does its job very clean and easy.
