I'm way out of date, but trying to get into the habit of having good systems in place before forging ahead now...

So I have a blog that I designed with css... I designed the first page the way I want, with styles for entries, headers, images, links, all that usual stuff. Also within the css is the structure of the page layout itself.

You can see this design at http://www.jonvandalen.com/test

Unfortunately I have come to the realization that this will not allow for an easy system of page numbering... for instance when index.html has enough entries, I then need the user to click "previous entries" and go to page "2" of older entries... then to page "3" for even older ones, etc... thing is if i rename index.html to page2.html... then i have to rename page 2 to page 3 and so on... that's annoying and it doesn't solve the problem of the entries sliding downwards, to the next page, or whatever is needed.

I did some quick searching and realized most people just use CMS like wordpress or something which handles the page ordering and shifts things around automatically. Problem is, I installed it and it just wasn't possible to get my design over top of that very heavy and feature-rich script.

Is there any light-weight easy solution to this? What I want to have is a blog style site where I can add entries and have the pages take care of themselves, mostly. I don't care if I have to add the entries myself into the code or dreamweaver, I'm not looking for a whole package like wordpress that works from any computer... just something to help me manage the page numbers and linking is all I need.... Please suggest anything becuase I'm worn out form thinking right now!

You could try Snews (http://www.solucija.com/home/snews/) which is a super simple CMS...

Personally I would argue that it's worth spending the time to learn something like Wordpress as well. If you get stuck just ask on the firendly Wordpress forums for help (http://wordpress.org/support/)

I currently working on my site, And I was thinking to make my own admin page, actually you can say my own mini cms. But I guess that is not smart to do ?

Well the beauty of Wordpress is that there are hundreds of plugins... (http://wp-plugins.net/)... and it's easy to make your own, if you know php etc?

There are lots of plugins that use Ajax already: http://wp-plugins.net/index.php?filter=ajax&filter_search=Go...

Just wanted to report success with snews. It's very easy to drop into existing design which is what I needed... and it's doing a very good job handling what I needed it to! I will try wordpress again and see if I can get results from that too... but it seemed awfully clunky the first time. Someone suggested I download a theme that is similar to my own first and go off of that which was an excellent idea.
