Hey Ya'll
I'm puting together a site for a college group and am having trouble with the header area. I have the image picked out and I think I am pretty close. It just needs some polish to give it that finished look. I;ve tried a few things and just can't nail it. I don't like the hard edge where the pic meets the white space along the bottom of the header.
Take a look and shoot me any ideas you might have. Anything would be appreciataed.

The solid logo and the welcome are conflicting i think, you can't take them both in at the same time... can you change their positions somehow?

That's Solid logo is pretty burly. I don't think it really works with the image, too. But, it that's their branding, guess you got to work with it, yeah? -

i'd float the welcome right so the logo isn't interfering with it and vise versa.
can't tell from the pic but if you haven't, try adding a subtle drop shadow under the header. (so the logo BG is still covering it). -
(I like the textures in this; brick, stone, etc; real nice contrasts there...)

I agree with Ward, align the welcome mat to the right and let the text start from where the mat is now. Aligning images to the right is usually best with text-heavy pages. -
Yeah, I don't really love the welcome mat. Possibly it will come out.
I'm more concerned with the image of the dude in the chair and how it connects with the body of the site.(white)
